Ultrasonic liposuction, also called ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL), is a cosmetic surgical procedure to remove unwanted or excess fat from certain areas of the body, including the chin, stomach, calves, back and neck. A qualified plastic surgeon inserts a special cannula, a small hollow tube delivering ultrasound vibrations and heat just under the skin and the ultrasound vibrations help to break down and liquefy the fat cells. Once the fat is liquefied, it is much easier for the surgeon to remove from the body by suctioning it out. Patients trying to determine if the ultrasonic liposuction cost is preferable to traditional lipo should compare both the benefits and drawbacks of this newer form of liposuction.

This form of lipo when compared to traditional liposuction is considered a less invasive procedure for the patient and one that produces less bleeding, sometimes by as much as 50%. It can prove to be a more effective procedure when used on areas of the body that contain more fibrous tissue such as the upper back and the male breast. Ultrasonic liposuction produces the least amount of side effects for the patient, who also experiences less post-surgical swelling and bruising of the skin when UAL has been the selected fat removing procedure. Another benefit is its precision and the ability during this procedure to remove greater quantities of fat at one time. This type of procedure is usually selected by patients who have large amounts of fat that need to be removed. Fat removal using UAL is permanent, another benefit that has added to this procedure’s popularity. Another benefit to this type of lipo is its ability to break up cellulite. As technology has progressed, delivery of ultrasound waves today is delivered in pulsated bursts of energy for better control, making this procedure even safer than when it was first introduced.

Although ultrasonic liposuction has been a popular procedure since its introduction within the past decade and is considered to be a safe surgery, there are complications that can arise following surgery that must be considered when evaluating the ultrasonic liposuction cost. There is an increased risk of fluid pockets known as seromas forming after surgery which must be drained. Scarring of the skin is another possible side effect as is numbness or paralysis of the nerves caused by the ultrasonic waves. The heat of the ultrasonic waves can also cause blood clots, so careful monitoring after the surgery is an important follow-up to having this surgical procedure.

The cost of ultrasonic liposuction is greater than traditional lipo and a consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon who is expert in this procedure is essential prior to determining if ultrasonic liposuction will deliver the desired results.
